 Ozzie Smith's love of the game, and his passion towards helping the under privileged, have led to a partnership that will change the face of St. Louis and the Gateway community forever.
Currently, the Gateway PGA Foundation is working, in partnership, with the Imagine Academy to introduce the game of golf. 90% of the Imagine Academy kids are at, or below, the poverty level. The Foundation is also working with the Innovative Concept Academy to introduce kids to a PGA Professional mentor. This Academy is a first of its kind in the country.
The Academy takes on kids who have been expelled from school and have no outlet to re-enter. With Ozzie's help, and a dedicated board and committee system, the Gateway Foundation will embark upon a mission of changing the outlook for kids all across our community. Major Fund-raising efforts are already underway. Most notably, the Gateway Foundation will be hosting a Pro-Celebrity Tournament at Fox Run Golf Club on June 17th, 2010. Fox Run will also host a Fund-raising dinner the night before, June 16, 2010, that will bring a collection of notable figures and entertainers.
There is plenty of news in store for this one-of-a-kind Foundation and it all starts in January 2010. The Gateway PGA Foundation will introduce Osborne Smith to the media in front of the kids of the Imagine Academy of Environmental Science and Math on Tuesday, January 12th at 9:30am in the schools gymnasium.
