First Bank/Bushnell Gateway PGA

               Match Play Championship

2008 Match Play Champ.jpg
Gateway PGA Rules Official Bob Shogren presents the 2008 First Bank - Bushnell Match Play Champions Trophy to Mark Faulkner of Lake of Egypt CC in Marion, IL.

Mark Faulkner of Lake of Egypt CC in Marion, IL, endured a 90 minute weather delay and defending champion Bob Gaus of Tower Tee GC, to capture the 2008 First Bank- Bushnell Match Play Championship at Algonquin GC.  Faulkner carded 5 birdies, and a clutch 10 foot par putt on the 18th hole in the final round to win the title.  After a 90 minute weather delay, play resumed on hole #11 and Gaus and Faulkner battled it out in a steady rain for the remainder of the round.  Earlier in the day Faulkner bested host professional Steve Hausmann, 2 & 1, while Gaus edged Bellerive head pro Mike Tucker by the same score to reach the final match.  Mark Faulkner now has a commanding lead in the Player of the Year points early in the season.  Next up for the Gateway PGA is the TaylorMade Southern Illinois Open in Marion, IL, on June 2nd.
