APPRENTICE EXPERIENCE CREDITS
Proposed By: Board of Directors
Subject: Apprentice Experience Credits
Background: Apprentices are awarded experience credits for each month eligibly employed and in good standing. Although Apprentices have never been awarded experience credits when in a suspended status, which is the intent of the Bylaws, the Bylaws do not expressly indicate that earning experience credits while in suspended status is prohibited. This regulation would clearly define the fact that suspended Apprentices do not earn work experience credits during the time they are suspended.
Recommendation: Only by Apprentices in good standing shall earn work experience credits.
Relevant Section: Article IV, ELECTION TO MEMBERSHIP, Section 2. Experience Credits
Current Reading: Article IV, ELECTION TO MEMBERSHIP, Section 2. Experience Credits, (a) Experience credits shall be awarded as follows:
Individuals initially registering in the PGA Professional golf Management Program may be awarded up to six (6) experience credits for employment during the twelve (12) months prior to registration.
Proposed Regulation: Experience credits shall be earned only by Apprentices in good standing. Apprentices shall not earn work experience credits while in a suspended status.
Revised Reading: Article IV, ELECTION TO MEMBERSHIP, Section 2. Experience Credits, (a) Experience credits shall be awarded as follows:
Individuals initially registering in the PGA Professional golf Management Program may be awarded up to six (6) experience credits for employment during the twelve (12) months prior to registration. Experience credits shall be earned only by Apprentices in good standing. Apprentices shall not earn work experience credits while in a suspended status.
Letter from Assistants' Committee Chairman Ty Zimmerman
Dear fellow Gateway PGA Assistants and Apprentices,
Hello, my
name is Ty Zimmerman and I am the 2008 Assistant’s Committee Chairman. I am writing you today to remind all of you
that beginning January 1, 2008; the only opportunity that you will have to participate
in the 2008 Tournament Program is to be a Level 1 Apprentice. If you currently are classified as a “pre-apprentice”
or on the suspended list with the PGA of America, you can not participate in
any event within the Gateway PGA Tournament Calendar. This includes the Assistant’s Championship
and all Assistant’s events.
Along with
the Assistant’s Committee, I am here to help you in any way that I possibly can. So in that, we are currently working on an
area of the website to make names and levels available to you any time of the
day. This page will have the
apprentice’s name, place of employment, last checkpoint attended, phone number,
and the date the checkpoint that was recently passed. We understand that it is not an easy task in
passing your book work and in passing the checkpoints, but we as a committee
are devoted in wanting you to become a member of the PGA of America.
If you are
not currently enrolled in the PGA PGM program it is easy for you to become
eligible to participate in the tournament program for 2008. You must first go and take a playing ability
test. Once you pass the requirements
from the playing ability test you then can register through the PGA to receive
your Level 1 kit. Once your kit is paid
you then are approved to play in the Gateway PGA Section’s Tournament Program.
If your
status is Suspended or Terminated you will have 2 options of regaining
eligibility. Terminated Apprentices will
be required to re-register, from the beginning, as though you were just starting
the program. Suspended Apprentice will
be required to complete the appropriate Checkpoints with regards to the
timeline established by the PGA, basically 2 years from inception date for each
Level.
If you have
any questions about your PGM work or the opportunity to play in the 2008
Tournament Program, please give myself or Tory Hayes, the Tournament Chairman,
a call. You can reach me at 636-561-9464
or Tory at 573-348-5252. Please let us the
Gateway PGA help you become a member.
Sincerely,
Ty Zimmerman
Assistant Committee Chairman
